WHAT IS THE DRI?

Now in its ninth round, New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) helps communities create vibrant, walkable downtowns that support redevelopment, business growth, housing choice, and a high quality of life.

In April 2026., Rome was awarded $10 million to develop and implement a strategic investment plan including catalytic projects for the waterfront district east of downtown where the former General Cable Complex and East Rome neighborhoods meet.  â€‹

Building on Rome’s previous round two DRI award and the Rome Downtown Brownfield Opportunity Area, this new effort will strengthen connections between neighborhoods, businesses, Bellamy Harbor, the Mohawk River, and nearly two miles of canal and riverfront. The area’s mix of history, recreation, public spaces, and waterfront access creates a strong foundation for continued revitalization. See the draft boundary below.
